What this site is

Onsen Vista is an independent English-language travel guide to Japan's hot springs (onsen) and the scenery around them. We write practical, fact-checked guides on things international visitors actually need to know before a trip: tattoo policies, day-trip access from Tokyo and other hubs, spring quality, prices, and bathing etiquette.

Our goal is simple: to help you plan an onsen visit with confidence, using information that has been checked against official and primary sources rather than repeated hearsay.

How we research and fact-check

Every guide on this site is built from a documented "fact pack": a list of claims, each tied to a source. Before a guide is published, we run an automated verification step that checks each guide against its fact pack for unsupported names, prices, and times, and flags language that overstates health claims before the guide goes live. When readers point out something that looks wrong or out of date, we review and correct it.

Where a figure is an estimate or a combination of published prices, we label it as such. Prices, transport times, and opening hours change often; please confirm current details with the relevant operator before you travel.

What we are not

We are a publisher of travel information, not a travel agency or a booking service. We do not take reservations, act as an intermediary for bookings, or handle payments on behalf of any accommodation or transport operator. When we link to a booking platform, you complete any booking directly with that platform under its own terms.
